Hoof's Tips and Opinions:

Overall, the F4U is an excellent E fighter. Able to handle high speeds with ease, this plane can be used as a BnZ plane really well, her high roll rate allowing one to correct for a target's evasive maneuvers and her huge ammo load lets you "walk" the fire into the target. Climb rate is mediocre, as far as WB planes go, but her dive is superb. Don't TnB with a P38, Spit, Zeke, 109F, or Hellcat, and you'll be fine. The F4U is one of the few planes with so much ammo that the spray 'n' pray tactic is perfectly fine. You won't down planes with those shots, but you can score hits. You'll need 2-4 seconds of fire poured on most targets to down them.

On the defensive, speed is life. This baby rolls so well the fact that the rudders become almost ineffective at speed is irrelevant. A sure getaway from most planes is a power dive at 90 degrees, roll to a random direction and pull out. Most planes will either compress, or lock up on the roll axis, both of which will result in them not following you any more. In a chase situation, roll, roll, roll. Keep speed up, and roll. She's tough, so she can take a few pings while you seek ack and friendlies.
