After the first good rain in '02-'03, the basement took in something between a leak and a flood. Well, yes, the ground on the north side sloped toward the house and we were draining half the roof almost at the foundation. So I dug a ditch at the property line with the water pouring in. This was obviously not a good solution. Ed's friend Charlie was installing a good solution: The Infiltrator®.

Ed offered to help dig. He moved most of those piles of dirt - I put a lot of effort into moving very little.

This grub's job is to hold stormwater until our packed clay soil can absorb it. Many thanks to Ed for this and the 2nd giant caterpillar grave. Now to find someone who wants yards of native clay and rocks...
The north side less watery ditch. The visible pipe leads to the first Infiltrator® in the front yard. With most of the thyme grown in. I've yet to decide what to do with the wasteland north of the path.
