The Residents are a fun image to play with. Simple or complex - they are a mirror. We look at them and see ourselves.
Here are a few experiments I've tried using different graphics programs.
My first piece is an attempt at stained glass artwork using Photoshop and Kai's Power Tools' Texture Explorer. The full image is 24K.
This is an early 3d model done with Ray Dream (now Fractal, now Metatools?) Designer. A stripped-down zipped-up .rd4 file with one eyeball & hat is available. It's 47K.
A new 3D idea hit today [1997-05-03]. I particularly like its simplicity, though not its lighting.
Back in 1995 I accidentally created a stereogram of a skull. Inspired by that, here's a piece of a new one. Focus on the smaller Rez in the top hats & tails... suddenly the big eyes will seem to float above them.
The full 1280 × 1024 GIF image is available but it is very large (315K). It's also really cool. Note that this image is not a tiling though it is made up of them.
Original eyeball images from the amazing RzWeb.

Inspired by a chat with the lovely Molly Harvey about the upcoming 1998 Residents concerts at the Fillmore, their new release Wormwood, and current fads in American Christianity. A t-shirt for troubled times.
I wanted one of these so much I made one. You can too; just follow the link.

Of course, if you're looking for something literary, you could try this.
