Lions and tiger and bears - oh my! -- Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, The Wizard of Oz
Remember when the woods were dark and full of scary things? When you were a child, did you ever walk past a graveyard in the evening and wonder if things were going to come and get you?
Didn't it feel good to close the front door behind you when you made it home? Wasn't it nice to be back in a secure place where people would take care of you?
A lot of people still want that security even when they are adults. That's why some people believe in this funny idea called angels. Why, some people even believe that they have their very own personal angel! This angel watches over them and protects them from harm. Some people even hear the voice of their angel.
Aren't the fantasies that people believe in amusing? Or rather, wouldn't they be if they didn't lock people into a cell, refusing to deal with the world?
Remember how Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Woodsman finally met a lion in the woods? Gee -- they faced the lion! They faced their fear and overcame it!
Why is it so hard for so many people to do the same?
