A Link Pattern from
Patterns for Personal Web Sites
The primary difference between relative and absolute intrasite links is how well they work when a site is moved or mirrored. When a site's location changes, relative links still work, but absolute intrasite links must be changed. Coding all intrasite links as relative, rather than absolute, will eliminate this problem.
Therefore, make intrasite links relative, not absolute.
Making intrasite links relative has an additional benefit. If you make a set of pages into a Downloadable Weblet, relative links will work without modification on a different machine.
If you desire the capabilities of absolute intrasite links, you can mimic them by making links relative and adding a <BASE>
tag to each page.
