Dehanced for Java

Congratulations! If your browser has JavaTM enabled, then your computer is now running less efficiently than it was.

This page loads a Java applet that does nothing but waste computing power. It makes a subtle performance difference on a 133MHz Pentium; not enough to cause problems, but enough to change application response times. Your mileage might vary.

Technically, this is a failed denial of service attack. It would be very easy to make this a real threat; only one line of code needs replacement. Instead of calculating a mathematical function, the code could continue to spawn threads or open sockets. Unless your OS can safeguard against these attacks, consider your system dead right now. If this had been a real attack, your system would have been dead before you read this paragraph.

Here's the applet source [1K ZIP file].

It's all part of the Dehanced for... campaign.
