A young boy meets "The Man Who Isn’t There" who teaches him the secrets of Kung Fu. Later this boy grows up to be Jackie, whose father doesn’t like Kung Fu. While working at his uncle’s restaurant as a waiter, Jackie beats up some threatening gangsters. The gang leader takes offense to this and decides to make an example of Jackie. In the end Jackie beats the gangsters, and "The Man Who Isn’t There" beats up Jackie’s Father’s ancient enemies.
This is a confusing film because all of the scenes with the Man Who Isn’t There were shot years after the scenes with Jackie. The story is that this was to have been Jackie’s first starring role "Tiger Cub from Kwantung," but the film production company went out of business. Then, after Jackie got more famous, there was enough money to get this film out and re-edit it with new plot twists. There’s one scene where the master tells Jackie to "go on home, I’ll handle them myself," and then the fight goes on without Jackie having to show his face. Also, the version of the tape that I had included three endings, and two of them were non-Jackie, and non of them had subtitles.
